King Charles III has reunited with Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their two children for the first time in four years, in what marks a significant moment for the divided royal family.
Harry, Meghan, their seven-year-old son Archie and five-year-old daughter Lilibet reportedly travelled from an undisclosed location in Europe to meet the monarch at Highgrove, the King’s private residence in southwestern England.
The meeting, reported by British media outlets including the PA news agency, is the first time Charles has seen his grandchildren since 2022.
Harry arrived in the United Kingdom earlier in the week for events marking the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games, the international sporting event for wounded veterans he founded.
The family reunion comes after years of tension between Harry and the Royal Family following his decision to step back from frontline royal duties and move to California with Meghan in 2020.
The rift deepened after the couple made public accusations about their experiences within the institution and Harry released his memoir Spare, which contained several revelations about royal life.
Despite the strained relationship, Harry has repeatedly said he wants to rebuild ties with his father.
The visit has also been surrounded by controversy, with reports that Meghan and the children were initially expected to miss the trip due to issues surrounding police protection.
Buckingham Palace has not officially commented on the private meeting.
The reunion also comes shortly after Harry suffered a legal setback in his ongoing battle with British tabloids. He and several other public figures lost a court case against the publisher of the Daily Mail over claims of unlawful information gathering.
Harry is also facing another legal hearing later this month that could expose him and other claimants to significant legal costs.
