Shock in South African football as Jayden Adams dies at 25 few days after playing at World Cup

South African midfielder Jayden Adams has died at the age of 25.

The sad news was confirmed by the South African Football Players Union (SAFPU), which said it was deeply saddened by his sudden death.

Adams recently represented South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he played in three matches for Bafana Bafana.

His mentor, Brendine Johnson, described the news as a huge shock to the family and those who knew him.

According to Johnson, Adams was excited about his future after returning from the World Cup and was looking forward to continuing his football career.

“He was very positive about coming back after the World Cup and continuing his journey. He knew what was ahead of him and was ready for it. He loved spending time at home with his family,” Johnson said.

He added that nobody expected such a tragedy and appealed to the public to respect the family’s privacy as they mourn their loss.The cause of Adams’ death has not yet been made public.
