World Cup 2026: Spain’s form makes them favourites against us – Deschamps

France coach Didier Deschamps believes Spain are the favourites to win their 2026 FIFA World Cup semi final clash.

France will take on Spain on Tuesday, July 14, at Dallas Stadium for a place in the final.

Speaking ahead of the match, Deschamps praised Spain’s performances in the tournament. He said the Spanish team has scored many goals and conceded only one, making them the favourites.

According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Deschamps said:

“Spain are clear favourites, without a doubt. I’m not putting pressure on them. Scoring a lot, only one goal conceded, they’re favourites.”

Despite Deschamps’ comments, France has also been impressive at the World Cup. Led by captain Kylian Mbappe, Les Bleus have scored 16 goals and conceded just two throughout the competition.

Spain, on the other hand, have scored 11 goals and let in only one goal.

Looking at previous meetings between the two countries, Spain have the better record. Out of 38 matches played, Spain have won 18 times, while France have recorded 13 victories.

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has also beaten Deschamps in their last two meetings. Those wins came in the semi finals of the 2024 UEFA European Championship and the 2025 UEFA Nations League.

The winner of Tuesday’s match will advance to the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
