England’s team news has reportedly been leaked ahead of the Three Lions’ FIFA World Cup semi-final against Argentina, with Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers set to start on the right wing, according to The Athletic.

The 23-year-old is expected to replace Noni Madueke, who started England’s quarter-final victory over Norway, in what will be only Rogers’ second start of the tournament.

Rogers previously started England’s group-stage match against Panama, where Jude Bellingham dropped into a deeper midfield role while the Aston Villa star operated as the team’s No. 10, with Declan Rice rested.

Apart from that appearance, Rogers has largely been used as an impact substitute by manager Thomas Tuchel, featuring off the bench in most of England’s World Cup matches and sitting out only the Round of 32 victory over DR Congo.

The midfielder strengthened his claim for a starting place with an impressive cameo in England’s dramatic extra-time win over Norway. Introduced in the 89th minute, Rogers impressed with his versatility by playing in several midfield roles as England secured their place in the last four.

Tuchel praised the youngster’s adaptability and influence after the match.

“We used Reece James as a right defender and put Elliot Anderson back as the six and played with Morgan Rogers on the eight and defensively as a double six,” Tuchel said.

“I think Morgan has had a difficult time not playing in the role that he wants and that he can play.

“He is one of my key players and I am so, so happy about his performance today.

“He made a big step forward today, like all of our substitutes, and especially for Morgan in a new position, this was absolutely top.”

England will take on Argentina  for a place in the World Cup final, with Tuchel expected to rely on Rogers’ energy, versatility and tactical discipline in one of the tournament’s biggest fixtures.
