2027: I can withdraw my support for Peter Obi any time – Fayose
Quick Read
“I can withdraw my support for Peter Obi. Do you people know how much I spent on Peter Obi’s 2023 campaign? I met Seyi Tinubu and people started complaining. Has Peter Obi ever appreciated me?” Fayose said.
Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has said he could withdraw his support for Peter Obi at any time, insisting that his political choices remain his personal decision.
Fayose made the statement while responding to criticism over a viral video showing him praying with Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, which sparked speculation among some Obi supporters that he had abandoned the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate.
The social commentator, in a post on his Facebook page, said his previous support for Obi should not be interpreted as a permanent commitment, stressing that he was free to support any political figure of his choice.
According to Fayose, he invested heavily in Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign but questioned whether the former Anambra State governor had shown appreciation for his efforts.
“I can withdraw my support for Peter Obi. Do you people know how much I spent on Peter Obi’s 2023 campaign? I met Seyi Tinubu and people started complaining. Has Peter Obi ever appreciated me?” Fayose said.
Fayose also expressed admiration for President Bola Tinubu and Seyi Tinubu, saying his meeting with them should not be interpreted as a political defection.
“If I want, I can start campaigning for President Tinubu. I’m a Yoruba man, and I love President Tinubu and his son,” he added.
The controversy followed Fayose’s earlier clarification that meeting Seyi Tinubu and other supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not mean he had dumped Obi or changed his political position.
He maintained that personal relationships and interactions with people across political divides should not automatically be viewed as an endorsement of a different political camp.
