Former Big Brother Naija housemates have credited the reality television show with transforming their lives and launching successful careers, while stressing that sustained success depends on hard work, consistency and personal growth beyond the spotlight.
Speaking at the media launch of Big Brother Naija Season 11 in Lagos on Wednesday, former contestants Uriel Oputa, Doyin David, Kola Omotosho and DJ Flo reflected on how the platform opened doors to opportunities in entertainment, business and entrepreneurship.
The panelists agreed that although the show provides contestants with nationwide visibility, remaining relevant after leaving the House requires deliberate effort, discipline and the ability to evolve beyond reality television fame.
Doyin David, who featured in Season 7’s Level Up edition and returned for Season 8 All Stars, said one of her greatest lessons came from watching herself on television.
She admitted that the experience made her realise she did not know herself as well as she had believed.
According to her, balancing her private life with her public image was a gradual process that involved making mistakes, learning from them and growing into a better version of herself.
For Uriel Oputa, a contestant in Season 2 See Gobbe and Season 8 All Stars, Big Brother Naija amplified a passion she already had for healthy living.
She explained that wellness had always been part of her lifestyle and that the show merely gave her a larger audience to share it with.
Season 9 housemate DJ Flo, whose real name is Flora Chiedo, said the programme creates opportunities but cannot guarantee success.
She urged aspiring contestants to understand that visibility alone is not enough, insisting that consistent hard work after the show is what turns opportunities into lasting careers.
Kola Omotosho, a contestant in Season 10, echoed the same view, describing Big Brother Naija as a powerful platform that gave him recognition but noting that passion, determination and consistency remain the keys to staying relevant.
The discussion highlighted Big Brother Naija’s growing influence beyond entertainment, with many former contestants using the exposure to build careers in media, fashion, business, wellness and other creative industries.
Organisers announced that Big Brother Naija Season 11 will premiere on Sunday, July 26, 2026, with the live launch show airing from 7 p.m. on Africa Magic Showcase and Africa Magic Family.
The new season marks betPawa’s debut as headline sponsor, while House of Guinness joins as gold sponsor and Minimie returns as associate sponsor. Hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the 24-hour reality show will air on DStv Channel 198 and GOtv Channel 49, with streaming also available on DStv Stream and GOtv Stream.
