“There’s always hope until there’s not, but when you get to a certain age, that hope looks like 1% to 2%,” Hathaway told Access Hollywood during the New York premiere of The Odyssey on July 14.
Anne Hathaway has revealed that she and her husband, Adam Shulman, had low expectations before she became pregnant with their third child at the age of 43.
The Devil Wears Prada actress said she and Shulman decided to “see where life took us” while trying for another baby, knowing that pregnancy at her age was not guaranteed.
“There’s always hope until there’s not, but when you get to a certain age, that hope looks like 1% to 2%,” Hathaway told Access Hollywood during the New York premiere of The Odyssey on July 14.
“So we just decided to see where life took us, with a very, very healthy, realistic expectation, which was very low,” she added.
Hathaway said the pregnancy was a blessing that she and Shulman do not take for granted, acknowledging that many people do not get the opportunity to have children when they hope for it.
The actress announced her pregnancy on June 19 through a video shared on Instagram, where she revealed her growing baby bump while wearing a flowing white dress.
The baby will be Hathaway’s third child with Shulman, whom she married in 2012. The couple are already parents to sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6.
Earlier, Hathaway described the pregnancy as a “buzzer-beater” during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, referring to the unexpected timing of the news.
The actress has also spoken about her family life, saying motherhood has influenced her personal style and approach to balancing work and parenting.
“I’m a tomboy! I love that being a boy mom has really informed my fashion,” Hathaway previously said.
She added that being a mother requires flexibility because she often moves between professional commitments and activities with her children.
Hathaway’s pregnancy announcement comes as she prepares for the release of The Odyssey, which arrives in cinemas on July 17.
