CAF Champions League: Rangers to Play home games at Remo Stars stadium

Nigeria Premier Football League champions Rangers International will play their home matches in the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.

The decision was made because renovation work is still ongoing at Rangers’ home ground, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, also known as The Cathedral, in Enugu. The stadium is being upgraded to meet the Confederation of African Football (CAF) requirements for continental matches.

Using the Remo Stars Stadium will allow Rangers to host their home games at a CAF-approved venue while work continues on their stadium.

The Remo Stars Stadium has become one of Nigeria’s top venues for CAF club competitions. It has hosted several continental matches in recent years and is known for its quality pitch, modern facilities and compliance with CAF standards.

Rangers will begin their campaign for a place in the CAF Champions League group stage from the Ikenne venue.

The Flying Antelopes qualified for the competition after winning their ninth Nigeria Premier Football League title. Club officials are hopeful that renovations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium will be completed before the later stages of the tournament if the team advances beyond the preliminary rounds.

The temporary move is seen as a practical solution that allows Rangers to focus on their continental campaign without concerns over stadium approval.

CAF is expected to announce the fixtures for the preliminary round in the coming weeks, with Rangers set to welcome their home supporters in Ikenne as they begin their quest for continental success.
