Messiah FC In Bright Start At Abesan Cup

Messiah Football Club of Agege have sent a warning signal to other teams after they defeated Midas FC 3-0 In their opening match of Abesan Cup held on Tuesday at the Teachers Traning College, Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos.

Messiah opened their scoring in the 8th minute of the match through Okoli Okechuckwu before Coker Olanrewaju scored the second goal. The effort of Midas FC to reduce the tally was abortive as the first half encounter ended in 2-0 in favour of Messiah FC.

In the second half, Messiah FC were on rampage as they kept pressure on their opponents before their effort was rewarded when Okoye John fired a shot in 78th minute to confirm their supremacy over their opponents.

The proprietor of the Messiah, Dr. Micheal Abiodun Oganla, who watched the encounter was full of praises for the team’s performance.

He, however, charged them not to be carried away with the victory recorded in their opening match, saying that they still have a long way to go if they want to win the title.

“The team have done well by displaying high level of commitment. What I saw today (Tuesday) shows that if the players remain resolute, they can go places. I wish them best of luck in their remaining matches,” he said.

Team Manager of Messiah, Beecroft Adedeji, said the team will improve as the game progresses. He said it is too early to predict that the team will win the title. He thanked their sponsor, Oganla, for the match bonus given to the team after the game.

“I am happy that our proprietor gave the players match bonus for the job well done. The journey is still far but we will approach all our games with all seriousness,’ he said.
