Supporters of impeached Lagos speaker Obasa storm Ikeja

Supporters of the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, have trooped to the speaker’s Lodge at Joel Ogunnaike Street, GRA Ikeja, Lagos, on Saturday morning.

Some of the supporters, wearing several pro-Obasa vests and caps, claimed that they were the scene to welcome the impeached speaker back to Lagos.

According to reports, Obasa had been in Abuja since Saturday, 18 January, 2025, trying to get the attention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to hear his own side of the story in the circumstances leading to his removal.

However, the President having heard the two sides of the story, was said to have finally approved Obasa’s removal.

Thirty three lawmakers signed the impeachment notice and they all participated in the impeachment process which took place on Monday, 13 January, 2025.

At the time of the impeachment, Obasa was in the United States of America. He made efforts to see the President in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during his last visit but was not able to see the President. This prompted his decision to return to Abuja in his bid to see the President.

After the final verdict by the President, Obasa is set to return to Lagos.

His supporters were being mobilised to welcome him back to the state via a statement by one Segun Balogun JP, Chairman of Ward F in Agege Local Government.

The statement directed all ward, zonal and LG executives and stakeholders to meet at ‘Ikeja GRA of Hon Mudashiru Obasa’.
