Tragedy struck at Danbare, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano, as a young lady said to have been battling with anxiety and mental disorder died after falling inside a well.
The incident caused panic in Danbare, Friday morning, when the lifeless body of the lady whose identity was not disclosed, was removed from the well by residents who came to fetch water.
A resident who confirmed the incident to our Correspondent on Saturday said residents were shocked to find the dead body inside the well which is one of the major sources of water supply in the area.
“We were shocked to find a dead body inside the well that early morning. A group of residents removed her lifeless body from the well; and immediately seal it off to avoid people fetching water from there.
” Security agencies were immediately notified for further action. The lady in question is suffering from mental disorder, even though she is not totally mad,” the source added.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the tragic incident in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
The statement said, “The fire service received an emergency call at 9:24 a.m. from a resident, Bashir Salisu, reporting the distressing incident.
“An emergency rescue team from the state headquarters was immediately mobilized to the scene, arriving at approximately 9:32 a.m.
“The victim, who was said to have been battling with anxiety disorder and mental health challenges, was retrieved from the well unconscious and was confirmed dead shortly afterward.”
