Suleja Bombers’ Trial Stalled
The scheduled commencement of trial of six suspected Boko Haram bombers at the Federal High Court siting in Abuja was on Thursday stalled as the defence lawyers insisted that the suspects be removed from the custody of the Department of State Security Service, SSS.
The men who were arraigned before the court presided over by Justice Bilkisu Aliyu, were charged on a 5-count charge bordering on acts of terrorism, even as the accused persons, who had no legal representation then pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
The defence lawyers led by Kevin Emeka Okoro and Nureni Sulyman, told the court that they were not ready for trial as they were denied access to their clients by the SSS and prayed the court to remove the suspects from the custody of the security agency.
According to Sulyman who made appearance for Salisu Ahmed, Musa Adam, and Umar Ibrahim, second, third and sixth accused persons respectively, the trial should not be allowed to continue as he had spent six hours at the SSS Headquarters in Abuja without being granted access to his clients.
