Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested no fewer than 18 suspected drug dealers and abusers in Kano during a raid on several notorious hideouts known for illicit drug sales and consumption.

The suspects were found in possession of large quantities of assorted illicit substances.

Kano State Commander of the NDLEA, Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, disclosed on Friday that the arrests were made during an intensive crackdown aimed at curbing drug-related crimes in the state.

“On January 30, the agency dislodged several drug hotspots in Fagge Area, Kwarin Kaya, Kofar Wambai, and Kofar Mata,” he said.

He noted that the raid at Kwarin Kaya was particularly tense, as some suspects attempted to intimidate the operatives from a distance.

However, the NDLEA remained resolute, ensuring the operation was successfully executed without incident.

According to him, significant quantities of illicit substances, including cannabis sativa and rubber solution, were recovered. The operatives also seized locally made dangerous weapons.

Idris-Ahmad reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug syndicates and combating substance abuse in Kano.

“The NDLEA is determined to prosecute all individuals involved in drug-related crimes and will continue to conduct operations aimed at securing communities from the dangers of illicit drugs,” he added.
