Kano was thrown into chaos as a violent clash between security forces and residents of Rimin Zakara village in Ungogo Local Government Area turned deadly, leaving three people dead and several others injured.

The mayhem erupted on Sunday night when a government-backed demolition squad moved in to pull down structures deemed illegal.

However, enraged villagers, determined to defend their homes, confronted the demolition team, leading to a fierce showdown.

According to the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, the demolition was ordered after Bayero University Kano sought government intervention to reclaim a parcel of land allegedly encroached upon by the villagers.

Tensions quickly escalated, with security operatives accompanying the demolition squad clashing with defiant residents.

In the ensuing chaos, three people lost their lives, while three Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel suffered serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Reeling from the bloodshed, the Kano State Government has announced plans to establish a high-powered committee to investigate the tragic incident. (NAN)
