Governor Loses Wife

Hajiya Zainab Gaidam, the third wife of Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, died on Monday in Abuja, after a protracted illness.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the governor on Media, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, said the funeral prayer for the deceased would be held at the National Mosque, Abuja, by 2 p.m. same day.

Although no details were given on the cause of her death, the statement added that the three-day fidau prayers would also hold on Wednesday at the Government House Mosque, Damaturu.

Meanwhile, the state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, has been receiving hundreds of sympathisers in Damaturu, who are trooping there to condole with the governor.

Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam is in Abuja for the burial rites.

Already, the state radio has suspended its programmes and was running recitation of the Quran as a mark of respect to the deceased.

NAN recalls that a serving governor of the state, Alhaji Mamman Ali, had died in 2009 while on a medical trip to Florida in the US.
