Speaking at the event in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Umahi reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to making federal roads across the country motorable, ensuring sustainable national development.

The Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, has officially flagged off the dualization of sections two to four of the Ekpoma-Auchi-Okpella-Okene-Ajaokuta Expressway, a major federal road project aimed at boosting socio-economic activities in Edo and Kogi States.

Speaking at the event in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Umahi reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to making federal roads across the country motorable, ensuring sustainable national development.

“This road is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu. It is a signature project that will transform this axis, enhancing economic and social activities. Roads built under this administration will stand the test of time, lasting over 50 years,” Umahi assured.

He described the Ekpoma-Auchi-Okpella-Okene-Ajaokuta corridor as critical to economic growth, linking Edo and Kogi States and serving as a vital route for trade and transportation.

Umahi commended Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo for his dedication to infrastructure development, adding that the partnership between Okpebholo and Senator Adams Oshiomhole had been instrumental in securing federal approval for the project.

Governor Okpebholo, visibly elated, described the flag-off as a landmark moment for Edo State. He recalled his past involvement in protests over the road’s poor condition and thanked President Tinubu for intervening.

“As someone who lives along this corridor, I understand the hardship caused by the bad roads. But today, that story is changing. Edo people are now witnessing real development,” he said.

He further revealed that the dualized road would feature three lanes, improving traffic flow and fostering economic growth in the region.

Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, represented by his deputy Joel Salifu, lauded President Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructure, describing the road as a symbol of regional connectivity and economic revival.

“This long-awaited project brings light and hope to the communities along this corridor. Once completed, it will ease movement, boost trade, and drive development in both Kogi and Edo States,” Salifu stated.

Former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, also praised the Tinubu administration for prioritizing durable infrastructure.

“Past administrations made Nigerians believe that roads couldn’t last beyond 10 years. Today, under President Tinubu’s leadership, we are seeing roads designed to endure between 50 and 100 years. This is the pathway to sustainable growth,” Oshiomhole said.

He added that the road project would significantly enhance economic activities between Edo and Kogi States, driving commerce, improving transportation, and fostering regional integration.
