LCDA Boss Empowers 250

The Chairman of Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Area, Hon. Mafe Abdul-Rasheed Abiodun, has pledged the delivery of more dividends of democracy to his people.

Mafe, who recently donated poverty alleviation materials to 250 indigent people in the council area, said that massive empowerment of the masses is the only way to eradicate poverty at the grassroots level.

He averred that empowerment is one of the cardinal policies of his administration to alleviate poverty to the barest minimum.

“We share the belief that empowering the poor will help us to prevent the rampage of social vices, which occur daily in our environment. It is in view of this and based on the thorough investigation carried out by our administration that we have decided to empower the electorate who voted us into office some years back.

“Today, we are giving out 25 sewing machines, 25 grinding machines, 25 hair-dressing dryers, recharge cards worth N10,000 to each person, 30 tricycles and so on. We believe that beneficiaries of these items will be able to do something tangible with them,” he said.

He, however, appealed to recipients to make good and proper use of the items in order to improve their standard of living.

On education, the council boss disclosed that plans have been concluded to commission two new six-blocks of classrooms each in African Church Primary School and Abesan Estate Primary School.

He pointed out that students in the area will get free exercise books. “This is a promise fulfilled to the electorate as we run a transparent administration.

Some of the beneficiaries, who spoke on the empowerment programme, expressed their gratitude to the council boss, describing the gesture as something that will go a long way to eradicate poverty in the area.

One of the beneficiaries, Tola Otujini, said, “It is a great event happening at the right time. This will go a long way to assist us in our various businesses and for the up keep of our families.”
