NUJ President Condoles With Borno Journalists Over Slain Colleague

The National President of NUJ, Mr Mohammed Garba on Tuesday condoled with journalists in Borno over the recent killing of their colleague, Zakariya Isa of NTA Network Centre, Maiduguri.

Garba, who spoke in Maiduguri, said that that he received the news of the death of Isa with shock, pointing out that it was unbelievable.

“I have been following the trend of reporting by journalists in Borno since the eruption of violence in the state and without prejudice, they are faring well in their write up,” he said.

The president appealed to Nigerians to know that journalists were charged with the responsibility of educating the public, saying that like any other individuals, they were bound to make mistakes.

According to him, when journalists go contrary to the ethic of their profession, they should be called to order rather than taking their lives.

He, however, advised journalists to limit themselves to their primary responsibility and desist from engaging in anything outside the practice of journalism profession.

Responding, the Zonal Manager of the centre, Malam Mohammed Daniya, thanked the president for his visit.

Daniya lamented that NTA had lost a hardworking and dedicated employee and prayed the Almighty God to grant the soul of Isa eternal rest.

The NUJ president also visited the deceased’s family residence in Ngomari Airport area and the Government House in Maiduguri to condole with the family and the state government respectively.
