Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has urged public servants to adopt a culture of innovation and excellence in their duties to enhance service delivery across the state.

Speaking at the Annual Staff Retreat of the Office of the Deputy Governor, themed “The Role of Employees in the Turnaround Process of 21st Century Public Services,” Hamzat emphasised the crucial role of public officers in driving progress.

The retreat, held at Novatel Hotel, Lekki, provided a platform for civil servants to discuss strategies for improving efficiency.

According to Hamzat, every officer, regardless of rank, must perform their duties with dedication to ensure the state and nation thrive.

“It’s important that in whatever role we find ourselves, we must do our best. If everyone carries out their responsibilities effectively, this country will progress. We must also remember that how we treat others matters—karma is real,” he stated.

The deputy governor further stressed that mutual respect and empathy are key to fostering national development, urging public servants to prioritise professionalism and ethical conduct.

In her remarks, Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Mobolaji Daba, expressed gratitude to Hamzat for his support in facilitating the retreat.

She noted that the forum enabled staff to exchange ideas, enhance skills, and improve overall efficiency.

“We must provide constructive feedback to the government, improve our effectiveness, and communicate better. This retreat has given us deeper insights into our roles,” Daba said.

Delivering a lecture at the event, Mr. Yusuf noted that public service has evolved from an analog system to a digital era, bringing greater efficiency and innovation.

He urged participants to upgrade their skills and align with global best practices to remain relevant in the 21st-century public service landscape.
