The embattled former Speaker of the Lagos State of House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa has claimed that Mojisola Meranda who was elected to replace him, has resigned.
Obasa, who had been faulting his removal by his colleagues and claiming that he remained the Speaker, said on Channels Tv’s Politics today on Thursday evening that Meranda had told leaders of the Lagos All Progressives Congress at a meeting in Marina that she had resigned.
Reacting to a question on why Meranda’s security aides were withdrawn while his own were restored, Obasa said, “When my own security personnel were removed even when I was not around without my knowledge, without my consent, did I complain? There was a meeting that took place in Marina where we had in attendance all the party leaders. Openly Meranda herself made the statement that she had stepped down, she had resigned.
“So when you resign from an office, the paraphernalia of the office would be taken away. What are you saying?”
Obasa insisted that his removal as Speaker by 36 of the 40-member House was invalid.
He said, “I have always said this that I have never been removed from office. I am not against any removal,” he said.
“If you are going to do that, you must follow the rules of the House. It is constitutional to impeach and remove. You have to follow the dictates of the Constitution.”
