Veteran Nollywood actress Ayo Adesanya has opened up about the harrowing abuse she endured in her failed marriage, revealing that the trauma led her to alcoholism.
In a candid interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Adesanya recounted how her ex-husband subjected her to physical abuse for a decade, even threatening to pluck out her eyes with a knife.
She also disclosed that he attempted to stop her from acting, restricting her career growth.
“Anywhere my ex-husband saw me, he would beat me,” she said. “He beat me so much that I became an alcoholic. But I couldn’t leave because of the shame of people saying I couldn’t keep a man.”
