The United Kingdom has bestowed its prestigious Cyber Personality of the Year award on Fene Osakwe, Chairman of the Lagos State Cybersecurity Advisory Board, marking him as the first African to receive the honour.
This landmark achievement underscores Osakwe’s influence and leadership in the global cybersecurity arena.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu hailed the achievement, calling it a victory for Africa’s tech talent.

“Lagos is committed to becoming Africa’s foremost science and technology hub, and we are proud to be associated with one of Nigeria’s shining stars in the tech world,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

His expertise in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy has earned him international recognition, making him a sought-after speaker at leading conferences across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
Established in 2014, the Cyber Security Awards honour exceptional individuals, teams, and organisations in the global cybersecurity sector.
The Cyber Personality of the Year title is awarded to those who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, advocacy, and impact, shaping the industry’s future.
Beyond his corporate achievements, Dr Osakwe is a mentor and thought leader, guiding cybersecurity professionals worldwide.
He has authored two Amazon best-selling books, contributed to Forbes, and served as a research and advisory figure in global cybersecurity.
He also mentors students at the University of Aberdeen, the University of Westminster, and Toronto Metropolitan University.
