The panel, after weighing the overwhelming evidence, ruled that DS Jones had grossly breached professional standards in authority, respect, equality, and conduct, and ordered his immediate dismissal.
Detective Sergeant Gethin Jones, a once-trusted officer of the Met’s West Area Public Protection team, has been dismissed in disgrace after a damning misconduct hearing exposed his disturbing pattern of unwanted sexual behaviour towards multiple colleagues.
The hearing, which concluded on Wednesday, 19 March, laid bare a shocking trail of sexual harassment, misogynistic remarks, and inappropriate communication spanning over three years—from July 2019 to September 2022.
According to the Met Police, the misconduct, which took place both on and off duty, included vile comments made in person and over phone messages, leaving his colleagues—many of them junior officers—feeling humiliated and unsafe in their workplace.
The panel, after weighing the overwhelming evidence, ruled that DS Jones had grossly breached professional standards in authority, respect, equality, and conduct, and ordered his immediate dismissal.
Chief Superintendent Jill Horsfall condemned his actions in the strongest terms: “DS Jones’ behaviour was utterly unacceptable. He made his colleagues feel vulnerable and unsafe, abusing his position of authority. The Met has no place for predators, and it is absolutely right that he has been removed without delay.”
She praised the courage of the officers who came forward, urging others facing similar misconduct to do the same: “Work should be a safe space. No one should have to endure what DS Jones’ colleagues went through. If you are suffering similar abuse, please speak out—we will root out those who betray the values of this organisation.”
Jones’ name will now be placed on the College of Policing’s barred list, permanently preventing him from serving in any police force or affiliated body across the UK.
His dismissal stands as a stark warning that such conduct will not be tolerated within the Met.
