50 Killed In Communal Clash

At least 50 people have been reported killed in Ini Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, southsouth Nigeria, during a communal clash.

Sources told P.M.NEWS that fighting broke out last weekend during which many houses were burnt and thousands of villagers were displaced.

The State Police Command spokesman, ASP Onyeka Orji, confirmed the incident to P.M.NEWS this morning on phone and added that the situation has been brought under control.

He said hundreds of policemen have been deployed to the local government area to maintain peace.

Orji declined to give full details about what led to the mayhem.

He promised to provide further information on the incident later today.
