‘I’m Tired Living With Her’

A defendant in a divorce suit, Mr. Taoreed Ayinla, 31 has asked an Agege Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Lagos, southwest Nigeria to dissolve his four year old marriage to his estranged wife, Mrs. Tawakalitu Ayinla because he is tired living with her.

Taoreed told the court that his wife is disobedient and does not listen to his instructions saying: “since the day I married her, she had never heeded my advice for once, instead she likes to do what she wants. She has a lot of problems.”

Responding, the petitioner said her mother-in-law ordered her to pack out of her matrimonial home. “I want the dissolution of this union. He threw me out of the house. I slept in the bush for three days. Later, I heard he had impregnated a young girl who is now his second wife.

“They introduced the girl to me at the police station when he denied the paternity of the young girl’s pregnancy. He said he wanted to beat my father and since then if I should call him, he cuts the phone. He gets angry at the slightest provocation.” She said.

The mother of two, in her petition to the court accused her husband of not being responsible. She prayed the court to grant her custody of the two children, Adams, 3 and Rufiat, 1 and ordered the defendant to pay N10,000 for feeding and N5,000 for medical fees of the two children. After listening to the parties, the court president, Mr. Emmanuel Shokunle adjourned the suit till 1 November, 2011 for judgment.
