Glovo, a leading multi-category app, in partnership with She Code Africa and the Lagos State Government says 100 women have graduated from its 12-week Women in Technology Bootcamp.
Mrs Lamide Akinola, General Manager, Glovo Nigeria, on Wednesday in Lagos, noted that the transformative 12-week programme was designed to equip women with technical skills.
Akinola added that the women were also empowered with mentorship, and career development opportunities in the technology industry.
She said that the event held to commemorate women’s month, emphasised the need for swift and decisive steps toward gender equality in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and beyond.
She noted that the bootcamp provided participants with specialised training in frontend development, backend development, and mobile development.
“In addition to technical training, the programme incorporated career coaching, soft skills workshops, and hands-on capstone projects to prepare participants for real-world careers in tech.
“This holistic approach ensured that participants not only gained technical expertise but also the confidence and resources needed to navigate the tech industry successfully.
“At Glovo, we believe that true innovation comes from diverse perspectives and this bootcamp is just the beginning.
“It is one of our many steps in a long-term commitment to empowering women in technology and creating more inclusive opportunities in the industry,” she said.
Akinola disclosed that the top two capstone project presentations showcased innovative solutions that addressed real-world challenges such as financial literacy, food waste reduction, and academic productivity.
She added that these projects were judged based on functionality, problem-solving approach, teamwork, and presentation skills.
She said the leaders of the winning teams of the backend and frontend capstone project competition were Linda Awo and Abisola Odusanwo for team one and Shukurat Akanbi and Melody Anaka for the second team.
Ada Oyom, Founder, She Code Africa, noted that her organisation’s mission had always been to create pathways for women to thrive in technology.
Oyom said that the impact of the bootcamp went beyond technical training to building confidence, fostering community, and accelerating action towards greater representation of African women in STEM. (NAN)
