Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has publicly apologised to former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, for insults directed at her.
She acknowledged the sacrifices Ezekwesili has made for good governance in Nigeria.
Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, had engaged in a heated exchange with former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, at the National Assembly on Tuesday.
The confrontation occurred during a Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions hearing on Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
During the tense session, Nwebonyi was heard directing derogatory remarks at Ezekwesili, referring to her as an “insult to womanhood” and a “hooligan,” as tempers flared in the dramatic exchange.
In a heartfelt message posted on social media, Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed deep admiration for Ezekwesili’s leadership, describing her as a beacon of integrity and accountability.
“Dr. @obyezeks, Ma’am, I apologise for the insults. Know you took them for me… for us… as a mother and as a leader. Know that you are a true icon of integrity, courage, and visionary leadership,” she wrote.
The senator went on to praise Ezekwesili’s contributions to governance, education, and democracy, stating that her resilience continues to inspire generations.
“A champion of accountability… Nigerians appreciate you. I celebrate your brilliance, resilience, and selfless service. You are a hero ❤️,” Akpoti-Uduaghan added.
Her message has sparked reactions, with many commending her for publicly acknowledging Ezekwesili’s contributions and issuing an apology.
