But his appeal raised a pressing question: will the devotion of the past 29 days fade away, or will it transform into lasting action?

As Lagosians mark the joyous celebration of Eid-el-Fitri, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has issued a message that carries both celebration and caution.

While extending heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim Ummah, his words carried an underlying urgency—one that challenges the faithful to uphold the sacred values of Ramadan beyond the festivities.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu emphasised the need for continued compassion, love, and care, particularly towards the less privileged.

But his appeal raised a pressing question: will the devotion of the past 29 days fade away, or will it transform into lasting action?

“Today’s celebration is a feast to mark the end of a month-long spiritual renewal after 29 days of fasting, prayers, and other religious acts,” the governor stated. But what happens next? Will Lagosians remain steadfast in the values they embraced during the holy month?

“The Holy Month of Ramadan is very significant to Muslims across the world as one of the major pillars of Islam, which teaches abstinence from worldly pleasures, steadfastness in prayers, and total submission to the will of Allah according to the Quranic injunctions,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu’s words serve as both a reminder and a warning: “We shouldn’t allow all the prayers and fasting during the Holy Month to go to waste. Let us continue to imbibe and show that something important has passed through us and let it reflect in our words, our lives, and our relationship with fellow human beings.”

The governor’s message is clear—Ramadan should not be a temporary transformation.

“We should not limit the goodness of our deeds to the Ramadan period alone; we must make the lessons and acts our way of life,” he urged, calling on all faithful to uphold their newfound discipline and devotion beyond the season.
