Association Calls For Immediate Repair Of Federal Roads In South East

The Association of Heads of Federal Establishments in Enugu State has called for the immediate rehabilitation of federal roads in the South East.

A communiqué issued by the association on Friday following its monthly meeting for October, noted the need for immediate action to save lives, especially during the “ember months’’.

On the recent de-accreditation of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, the association lamented whatever managerial impropriety that crystallised into the clampdown by the federal authorities regulating education in Nigeria.

It noted that the institution had been the pride of the South East zone in the area of academic excellence and techno-capacity building over the years.

“But the institution seemed to have derailed from its set objectives, probably due to over-dependence on and its curiosity to meet up with internally generated revenue,’’ it noted.

The association stated that the development was capable of dragging the management objectives away from the philosophy of its founding fathers.

It applauded the state government for its quick intervention and the restructuring of the administrative composition of the institution, noting the need to ensure total state-concern in the funding of the school to avert a repeat of such situation.

The association also called on both the federal and state governments to always make policies that would guarantee the provision of greater good for the greater people of the country, notwithstanding the political antecedents surrounding such policies.

It also reflected on the traffic congestion in Enugu metropolis and observed that this constituted a barrier to the smooth movement of people, particularly during the morning and evening hours.

The organisation called on automobile users in the city to always abide by traffic rules while calling on the Federal Road Safety Commission to checkmate the recklessness of bus and tri-cycle drivers.
