As the world marked Mothering Sunday on March 30, Nigerian businesswoman Laura Ikeji Kanu took to social media to share some advice with her Igbo brothers.
In a message posted on her Instagram stories, Laura urged wealthy Igbo men to prioritize giving their mothers tangible gifts while they are still alive, rather than waiting to host extravagant burial ceremonies after their death.
In her words,
“To all my Igbo brothers,
Today is Mother’s Day.
Spend that 1 billion naira you’re
saving up for mama’s burial to buy
her a tangible gift while she’s alive.
Buy her that RR, buy her that mansion
don’t wait to spend money on a burial
she isn’t present to witness.
Spending 100s of millions on a burial of
a woman who has never been abroad,
owned a luxe car or lived a luxe life is
wild!!!”
