The Lagos State Government has advised motorists without urgent business around the Independence Bridge to stay off the route as heavy traffic congestion worsens following its closure for emergency repairs.

The bridge, which was shut down two days ago by the Federal Government, has caused severe gridlock, especially during peak hours, with commuters struggling to navigate alternative routes.

The government in a statement issued by the Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Ministry of Transportation on Wednesday, said motorists heading to Victoria Island from Ahmadu Bello Way were advised to take Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, proceed to Falomo Roundabout, and link Obafemi Awolowo Road to access Ring Road for a smoother journey.

It said those traveling from Ahmadu Bello Way to the Third Mainland Bridge should go through Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, connect to Alfred Rewane Road, link Osborne Road, and access Ring Road to reach their destinations.

For motorists heading to Inner Marina and CMS from Ahmadu Bello Way, the recommended route is via Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, connecting through Falomo Roundabout, linking Obafemi Awolowo Road, and proceeding through J.K. Randle Road or King George V Road.

The Lagos government urged drivers to cooperate with traffic management personnel stationed at strategic points to help ease movement and ensure order, adding that commuters should brace for delays and plan their journeys accordingly as repairs continue.
