Why We Sponsor Governor’s Cup —Etisalat

Officials of Etisalat Nigeria have said that the telecommunications company sponsored Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship to demonstrate their support for the development of a vibrant sports sector in the country.

Speaking during the final ceremony of the 11th edition of the ITF approved championship at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club last Saturday, Chief Commercial Officer of Etisalat Nigeria, Wael Ammar said that “we are pleased at the opportunity to once again be a part of this great tournament which brings together different players from other African countries, Caribbean Islands, Europe and South America.

“At Etisalat, we recognise the importance of investing in such initiative, which is a meeting of world class players from around the globe and has remained the only International Tennis Federation, ITF ranked tournament in Nigeria. It is also the longest running ITF tournament in the country offering the highest prize money on the continent.

Ammar, however, commended the Local Organising Committee, LOC, for drawing attention to other sporting activities aside football.

“The effort of the organisers must be commended since they have taken steps to improve Nigerian players’ rankings and development by sourcing for sponsorship for the players who are able to get to the quarter finals of the tournament forthwith. This is a giant step to the development of this great game and will accord the players the opportunity to play in ITF rated tournaments at every three months. I must say well done for this effort,” he said.

He noted that Etisalat, apart from sports, also engage in support activities and causes in different areas such as education, health environment, arts and others to identify with the Nigerian society.
