NGO Donates Furniture, Beddings To Orphanage Inmates

A Canada-based non-government organisation, led by Afolabi Odekunle recently celebrated his 50th birthday in a unique way by putting smiles of less-privileged members of the society.

Instead of throwing a party like others do to celebrate having attained the golden age, Odekunle opted to celebrate it by lending a helping hand to the the ophans and abandoned children at the SOS village, Isolo, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.

The Canada-based Nigerian, a real estate consultant and Oracle Computer expert, donated 80 double bunk beds, 80 matresses and 80 pillows to enable the children at the home to sleep without stress.

Speaking at the event, wife of the donor, Mrs. Ayodele Odekunle who represented her husband at the presentation of the materials said, “my husband, Odekunle, turned 50 years recently, and when his friends asked him how he would celebrate it, he told them he would celebrate it with the motherless, orphans and abandoned children in Lagos.

“That is why he sent me to Nigeria to donate the items to children’s home to let them know that they are not forgotten and someone somewhere cares.

She added: “We have been in Canada for the past 14 years and my husband decided to give back to the country where his success started.”

Responding, the social worker in charge of the Isolo SOS Village, Mrs. Bolanle Nasser said, “I am overwhelmed with the donation and I am also surprised that it is always unknown persons that come to identify with the motherless, ophans and abandoned children’s home in Isolo, Lagos despite the presence of rich men and corporate bodies all over Lagos State and Isolo Industrial Estate in general.

“I pray to almighty God to reward the donor in abundance in his endeavour; protect and prolong his life to continue to touch the lives of the less privileged.

She used the opportunity to call on corporate organisations, millionaires and billionaires residents in Lagos State to emulate the donor and come to the aid of the motherless, orphans and abandoned children at Isolo SOS Village.

“Any of them could be president, governors and local government chairmen in the nearest future who would also touch the lives of the people,” she appealed.
