Not everyone can dance like Funke Akindele- Nollywood actress laments

Veteran Nollywood actress Jaiyeola Kuti recently spoke about a common marketing strategy in the entertainment and movie industry.

The Nollywood actress posted a video on her Instagram page to address filmmakers about something she called an exhausting routine. She spoke about using social media gimmicks, skits ans dance routines to promote movies.

“I’ve seen a lot of ongoing discussion online concerning executive producers, producers, dancing to, you know, to promote their movies.”

Kuti also made revelations about the sacrifices many filmmakers and producers to get through to their target audience .

“Some executive producers go as far as to sell what they have to make a good movie… because, indeed, a good movie is a lot of money.”

The Nollywood actress said that she didn’t have to do much for her first film to be a success .

“I made my money plus interest. You understand?” she said.

The Nollywood actress went on to question the pressure producers now face to become entertainers for the sole purpose of promotion.

“Not everybody can dance like Funke Akindele,” “God made everybody beautiful and imbued all of us in different ways. Everybody has a place in art.”

Although the Nollywood actress praised Funke Akindele for her body carriage and dance skills, she spoke on how such trends set unrealistic expectations for others. “If dancing is what will make it sell, maybe we should start then,” she said.

She then spoke on the marketing strategy of creating social media content to remain relevant and survive.

“Now some of us are turning from proper actors to skit makers,” she said.

She also spoke to the audience about setting unrealistic expectations from the producers, and pleaded with them to support other filmmakers.

“Viewers, you need to help us,” If that person is on the latrine, shitting is what is making the person to sell, the next person is going to go and shit on the latrine. Just because it worked for somebody doesn’t mean it will work for you,” Kuti pleaded.
