The tragic incident occurred in Amudo Village, Ekwulobia, Anambra, at approximately 1:40 PM on Friday.
Upon receiving the report, officers attached to the Ekwulobia Divisional Police Station responded swiftly to the scene, where the suspect was apprehended, and an axe believed to have been used in the crime was recovered.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, the police media officer in Anambra, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said preliminary investigations revealed that the dispute arose from a disagreement over proceeds from a cassava business, with the suspect accusing his mother of dishonesty.
“Operatives recovered one axe at the scene. Preliminary investigations reveal that the incident stemmed from a dispute over money made from a cassava business.
“The suspect had accused his mother of dishonesty,” Ikenga stated.
He added that the suspect was currently in police custody under close monitoring to prevent a suicide attempt and would be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
