“We have held stakeholders meeting with various sectors in the community that the council will no longer tolerate indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the medians across the roads in the community,” Oluwaloni declared.

Newly sworn-in Chairman of Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA, Mr. Ladi Oluwaloni, is wasting no time in sending a thunderous warning to those turning the streets into a garbage dump: “We will no longer tolerate it—if you dump refuse, we’ll come for you!”

The Chairman, backed by a fierce cleanup team from LAWMA and the council management, led an aggressive operation across Ayobo on Thursday, targeting filth-infested medians that have become an eyesore and health hazard.

“We have held stakeholders meeting with various sectors in the community that the council will no longer tolerate indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the medians across the roads in the community,” Oluwaloni declared.

“That’s why we are collaborating with the police, LAWMA, community and market leaders to curtail the menace in our community,” he added, signalling a full-scale environmental battle.

LAWMA’s top man, Mr. Tunde Suleiman, backed the clampdown, calling it a “laudable exercise” that shows residents the government means business.

“This is a laudable exercise that will show and tell the residents that the government is ready to curtail the menace of indiscriminate dumping of refuse,” he said.

“We have engagement with PSP to reach out to people continuously and we have also met with the community leaders to encourage and ensure the residents comply with environmental law,” Suleiman added.

But perhaps the most explosive comments came from Elder Joseph Olokede, Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), who didn’t mince words in his call for action and accountability.

“We wish all the community development associations around here will do the necessary thing to make their environment clean to guard against pollution and avoidable ailments because the council has done its own part of it,” he said.

Then, turning to the PSP operators, Olokede delivered a stinging message: “We must have to also beg the PSP operators again: If they collect money, let them carry out the exercise. If you don’t work, you cannot collect money.

“They believe in taking our people to court, sealing up their houses. The truth is that if they don’t come to park the refuse, the owner of the house will carry the refuse to somewhere else.”
