Fans complain over Rema’s ‘tardy’ performance at Coachella

Afrobeats fans worldwide have reacted towards Rema’s performance at the 2025 Coachella with majority referring to it as ‘tardy’ and ‘unprofessional’.

The Grammy nominee arrived the stage more than 20 minutes late into his set at the Mojave stage in California.

The artist was scheduled to perform for 45 minutes and was nowhere to be seen when his set began.

Fans said he took more than 20 minutes before making an entrance.

The eyewitnesses at the event also complained about the performance as Rema was seen to be lip syncing at taking multiple water breaks mid performance.

“The Rema set at Coachella is a disaster. 20 mins in and Rema is nowhere to be found. The DJ has been hyping the crowd while the band just stares at each other. It’s the DJ’s set at this point,” a fan reported on X.

Although Rema’s team have explained their side of the story,  it didn’t do much to salvage the situation.

“Following a successful week of rehearsals leading up to Rema’s Coachella debut, he and his dedicated team arrived on site early, well ahead of the scheduled performance time. However, during their allocated setup window, the crew encountered unexpected technical malfunctions with the festival’s on-stage audio system,” they said.

They also added that there were significant issues which prevented Rema from hearing himself while on stage.

This is not the first time Rema will underperform at a global event as the singer left the stage mid performance in Atlanta in 2023, and also walking offstage mid set at the Dreamville Festival in 2024.
