Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has indefinitely suspended the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom, Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor, over rising insecurity in his domain.

Uwano Kingdom, located in Etsako East Local Government Area, has recently witnessed a surge in kidnappings and killings, prompting the state government to act.

In a statement issued late Monday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Fred Itua, Okpebholo’s suspension of the monarch was directly linked to “recent cases of incessant kidnapping and killings” within the monarch’s territory.

Itua further disclosed that the monarch’s secretary, Chief Peter Omiogbemhi, has been arrested in connection with a recent incident that led to the death of a palace chief, the late John Ikhamate.

The governor’s directive takes immediate effect, and no timeline has been given for the monarch’s possible reinstatement.
