Court Remands Man For Killing In-Law
An Osogbo senior magistrates’ court has ordered that a 35-year-old carpenter, Mr Hezekiah Toromade, be remanded in prison custody for allegedly killing his sister’s husband.
The police prosecutor, Mr Ponle Olayinka, told the court on Wednesday that the murder suspect on October 29, at Modakeke in Osun State killed Abiodun Adeyemo by hitting him on the head with a stick.
Olayinka said the offence contravened section 316 of the state criminal law and punishable under Section 319 of the same law.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Olusola Aluko, did not take the plea of the accused, saying that murder cases were beyond the jurisdiction of the court.
He ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending a legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.
Aluko adjourned the case to December 15.
Meanwhile, three men, Olanrewaju Olawale, Uzamat Teslim and Akinleye Toluwalase were arraigned before Senior Magistrate Aluko on Wednesday charged with attempted robbery.
The police prosecutor, Mr Joshua Oladoye, told the court that the three accused persons conspired and attempted to rob Oceanic Bank in Ilesa, Osun State on October 19.
Oladoye also said that the accused unlawfully assembled, while armed with guns and other dangerous weapons in an attempt to rob the bank before they were nabbed.
He said the offences were punishable under Sections 516, 504 and 69 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol 11 Laws of Osun State 2003.
The three accused pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them, while their counsel, Mr Abimbola Ige, applied for their bail.
Oladoye opposed the bail application on the ground that their freedom might jeopardise police investigations.
Aluko adjourned the case to November 4 for the consideration of the bail application and ordered the accused persons to be remanded in prison custody till the adjourned date.
