Four Men Arraigned For Electoral Offences

Four men, Mumuni Ayodele 20, Silas Adesina 37, Fatai Giwa 19 and David John 27, apprehended by the police during the last local government election in Lagos State have been arraigned before an Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court.

According to the two-count criminal charge filed before the court by the police prosecutor, Inspector Godwin Anyanwu, it was alleged that the four accused persons on 24 October 2011 at Eti-Osa Local Government Council Secretariat, Ikoyi, Lagos State conspired and were engaged in an unlawful assembly and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 64 of the criminal code.

Inspector Anyawu further alleged that the four accused persons at the same time and place, while armed with bottles, knives and other dangerous weapons behaved in such a way to cause terror to members of the public and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 80 of the criminal code.

All the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge, and they were granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum while the case was adjourned for trial.
