Two individuals, identified as Nuche Joseph (34) and Lawal Rofiat (29), have been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) for impersonating officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) and extorting accident victims.
The suspects, according to the police, were arrested on 29th April 2025 while posing as LASAMBUS officials.
They were reportedly operating under the guise of a private outfit, BrainGrace Ambulance Service, which has no official affiliation with the state-run ambulance system.
In a statement posted via the Lagos State Police Command’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @rrslagos767, the RRS revealed that the duo had been “exploiting unsuspecting members of the public” by demanding large sums of money in exchange for emergency care meant to be free.
“The suspects, working with BrainGrace Ambulance service, have been impersonating Lagos Ambulance Service and fleecing accident victims of various sums of money for pre-hospital care, which is rendered free of charge to accident victims in the state,” the police stated.

According to the police, “The relatives of the deceased, realizing the service was designed by Lagos State Government to be rendered free of charge, felt exploited. They took to social media to expose BrainGrace Ambulance, erroneously claiming that they were defrauded by Lagos State Ambulance Service.”
The statement further noted that both suspects had confessed to the crime and had already been charged to court.
“The two suspects have made confessional statement to the police and have been charged to court,” the command confirmed.
The Lagos State Police Command has urged members of the public to verify the authenticity of service providers in emergency situations and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities.
