Nigerian actor and filmmaker Abdullateef Adedimeji and his wife, actress Mo’ Bimpe Adedimeji, have emerged victorious at the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for their role in the movie Lisabi: The Uprising.
The couple took home the award for Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa), a recognition that notes their great contribution to Nollywood’s rich cultural heritage.
The Adedimejis, who were dressed in chic, unique outfits for the ceremony, expressed their gratitude during their acceptance speech.
They dedicated their win to God and acknowledged the collective effort of their dedicated team, emphasizing the hard work, passion, and persistence that went into bringing Lisabi: The Uprising to the big screen.
The movie, set in 1800s Egba land, chronicles the story of Lisabi, a courageous farmer who rises to challenge the warriors of Oyo who have been terrorizing his people and robbing them of their farm produce. Lisabi’s bravery, in rallying his fellow farmers to stand up to the oppression of the Ilari Oyo, marks a significant moment in the history of the Egba people.
Lisabi: The Uprising was not just limited to the Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa) category. The film was also nominated for multiple awards, including Best Art Director, Best Make-Up, Best Cinematography, Best Lead Actor, Best Costume Design, Best Supporting Actor, Best Editing, Best Sound Design, and Best Movie.
In the same category as Lisabi: The Uprising, other films such as Seven Doors by Femi Adebayo, Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre by Kunle Afolayan, Kaka by Prince Daniel, and Mai Martaba by Prince Daniel, also earned well-deserved nominations, marking a strong competition in the indigenous film space.
