Muslim Leader Calls For Fear Of God During Sallah
Alhaji Lukman Raimi, President, The Muslim Congress (TMC),on Friday called for the fear of God and submission to the will of Allah among Muslims during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, Raimi urged Muslims to follow the piety and total submission exemplified by prophet Ibrahim in his worship.
“The essence of the festival is not the slaughtering of rams, but it is a time for sober reflection on our lives, and to worship Almighty Allah,†he said.
He urged Muslims to be moderate during the celebrations, explaining that God did not support going into debt in other to celebrate it.
He said that the slaughtering of rams was only for those who have the means, adding that “what mattered most is our relationship with God.
“No one should go into debt to celebrate Sallah. If you do not have the means, it is not compulsory since there is no penalty for not slaughtering.
“If you have money for fish, buy it, you don’t have to go into cooperative to borrow in order to kill a ram,†Raimi said.
He urged Muslims to desist from slaughtering rams that were not fit, so as to make their worship acceptable to Allah.
According to the Muslim leader, the high cost of ram is not a guarantee for killing rams that are not in good condition.
“Rams that are sick, injured, with broken horn or about to die are not acceptable for Eid-el-Kabir worship,†Raimi said.
He urged all Muslims to join hands together to build Nigeria, by promoting brotherhood and tolerance among the nation’s various ethnic and religious groups.
“Let us shun extremism, hooliganism and violence because these are antithetical to the principles preached by Prophet Ibrahim,†he said.
