The 22nd edition of National Sports Festival (NSF), tagged Gateway Games in Abeokuta was declared open on Sunday with colourful opening ceremony witnessed by dignitaries from all parts of Nigeria at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
President Bola Tinubu who was represented by the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, declared the Sports festival open.
Leading Nigeria’s music stars, Davido and Asa also added colour to the event with their energetic performances at the opening ceremony.
Dignitaries including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, Imo, Osun and Kogi counterparts, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, Ademola Adeleke and Usman Ododo also added colour to the event with their presence.
Also president at the event were the deputy governor of Ekiti State, Monisade Afuye, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dimeji Bankole, former Ogun State governors, Olusegun Osoba and Sen. Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Also present at the well graced opening ceremony were lawmakers from the state and national Assembly.
The 22nd NSF is taking place in Abeokuta, between May 16 and May 30 with athletes to compete in 23 sports events.
