Popular actress and skit maker Lizzy Jay, also known as Adeyela Adebola, has revealed that becoming a comedian was never part of her original career aspirations.
In a recent interview on Nollywood on Radio, Lizzy Jay disclosed that she initially dreamed of pursuing a music career and becoming a medical doctor, not comedy.
“Nothing was on my mind when I started making skits,” she said. “What was on my mind was to do music, go to school, and become a medical doctor. Skit-making was just a way of killing boredom. I was home alone, had my phone, and needed to do something.”
She clarified that her journey into skit-making wasn’t inspired by others or by trends. “It wasn’t like I planned or saw people doing skits and thought to copy. I was just bored, and I started making a skit,” she added.
Lizzy Jay’s breakthrough came unexpectedly when one of her early skits went viral on Facebook and was reposted by top celebrities, including Nollywood icon Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde. That moment, she said, was a turning point.
“I knew my skit was beyond just a boredom killer after one of my skits… was reposted by several celebrities, including Omotola Jalade on Instagram,” she shared. “At that point, I just thought I needed to continue what I started.”
