In a strategic move to bridge critical skills gaps and future-proof the Lagos State Public Service, the Ministry of Establishments and Training has concluded a three-day intensive bootcamp aimed at equipping Learning and Development Officers with modern tools and competencies for institutional growth.

Held at Novatel Hotel, Lekki, the training programme, tagged “Cultivating Growth through Learning and Development in Lagos State Public Service.” focused on aligning workforce development with evolving global standards and the State’s long-term objectives.

Declaring the event open, the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Establishments and Training, Mrs. Bibilomo Olushekun, highlighted the urgency of investing in human capital.

He stressed that addressing existing competency gaps and adopting emerging technologies, especially Artificial Intelligence, are vital to building a resilient, innovative, and competitive public workforce.

Participants were immersed in specialised workshops covering key areas such as monitoring and evaluation, e-learning methodologies, and human capital analytics.

These sessions were crafted to enhance organisational performance, promote accountability, and ensure that training initiatives are data-driven and goal-oriented.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo, lauded the Ministry’s proactive efforts to institutionalise continuous learning.

He described the bootcamp as both “timely and timeless,” underscoring the need to shift from short-term interventions to sustained and strategic capacity-building frameworks.

“Flexibility, foresight, and knowledge are the lifeblood of modern public service,” he stated. “Our ability to serve the people of Lagos with excellence depends on how well we adapt, learn, and lead.”

Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Olubusola Abidakun, reaffirmed that the programme was designed to empower Learning and Development Officers across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), ensuring their work directly supports the State’s transformation agenda.

With over 100 officers in attendance, the bootcamp marks the first phase of a two-part capacity-building series, envisioned to drive innovation, elevate service standards, and embed a culture of continuous improvement across the Lagos State Public Service.
