Fleeing RTEAN Leader Arrested In Ijebu Ode

The runaway leader of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN),in Ijebu Ode, Alhaji Titilayo Akibu, a.k.a. Efele has been arrested, sources at the Police Headquaters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, southwest Nigeria, revealed this morning.

A source at the police headquaters told our correspondent this morning that Akibu, who was declared wanted after the state Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, ordered his arrest last week Tuesday, surrendered himself at the police station yesterday with his lawyer but was detained.

According to the source,” the boy came to our office yesterday with one man whom he identified as his lawyer, hoping that that can help him out, but the case on ground is beyond that. He was instantly arrested because these people including those that have been arrested and those still at large have been causing unrest in Ijebu-Ode.”

It was also confirmed that one of the NURTW leaders, Alhaji Jimoh Mogaji, a.k.a. Aluji has also been arrested and detained at the force headquaters in Abeokuta.

Governor Amosun had last week proscribed the activities of the two unions in Ijebu-Ode following the incessant killings by cult groups allegedly sponsored by members of the transport unions who try  to settle scores among themselves.

The governor during the unscheduled visit to the town had ordered the arrest of  Alhaji Bashiru Yekeen, a.k.a. Aweda and Alhaji Osinowo Otto.

Peace in the town was disrupted in the last few weeks before the Sallah festival due to the serious crisis caused by the cult groups who were alleged to be working for some people in the motor parks.

Some people who spoke with our correspondent yesterday disclosed that the festival was hitch free due to the heavy presence of security personnel who were drafted to the town to quell the crisis.

As at the time of filling this report, security men were still seen in all strategic places in the town stopping and searching  all vehicles.
