Robbers Blow Up Bank On Sallah Day
While the Muslim faithful were celebrating the Eid-El-Kabir festival, robbers invaded a new generation bank at Ayobo, Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos, southwest Nigeria and blew it up with dynamite, carting away millions of naira.
This was the second time the men of the under world was robbing the bank in a similar fashion.
There was no official response yet on the amount of money stolen, but a source who witnessed the operation said it was in millions.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the gang struck the bank located at Ipaja Road, Ayobo on Sunday morning with dynamite and blew up the bank vault to gain access into the hall.
They were shooting sporadically with their sophisticated weapons while operation lasted, our source said.
The policemen who were supposed to provide security at the bank reportedly flee because they could not confront the robbers who had superior weapons.
Though no life was lost, the bank’s security guards on duty were reportedly beaten, tied and locked up in a place while the operation lasted.
Following the attack, the police at Ayobo station have arrested two security guards who were on duty on the day of the robbery.
The guards, Adesina Lukman and Samuel Ajayi were detained in the Police cell at the time of filing this report.
When P.M.NEWS visited Ayobo police station, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO was said to be busy and cannot attend to our reporter.
Meanwhile, a Lagos lawyer, Mr. Adejumo has threatened to sue the police for illegal detention of the bank’s guards.
He explained that the police failed to perform their duty and only wanted to use the guards as scape goats to cover-up their lapses.
“Do they want the guards who were without arms to confront the gang who came with sophisticated weapons.†He asked
Meanwhile, no other arrest have been made in connection with the incident by the police. P.M.NEWS learnt.
As at this morning the bank could not pay their customers while its Automatic Teller Machine, ATM, was out of use;
When P.M.NEWS visited the bank this morning, an inscription was placed on the ATM that reads: “Out Of Use.â€
Customers could not use the ATM to cash their money just like they could not make use of the banking hall.
