President Bola Tinubu has conferred the prestigious Nigerian National Honour of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) on American billionaire philanthropist, Mr. Bill Gates, in recognition of his exceptional dedication to improving lives in Nigeria and across Africa.

In a ceremony held in Abuja on Tuesday, President Tinubu lauded Gates’ decades-long commitment to global health, education, agricultural development, and digital innovation—interventions that have particularly impacted Nigeria.

The President noted that Gates’ work, especially through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has not only saved millions of lives but also inspired global momentum on issues ranging from polio eradication to health system strengthening.

“Bill Gates’ contributions have uplifted communities and catalysed solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges,” Tinubu said.

“His passion for progress aligns with our belief that real development begins with investing in people.”

Following the award presentation, both leaders engaged in high-level discussions focused on expanding cooperation in youth development, public health, and technological innovation.

Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to fostering partnerships that “move humanity forward.”

Gates, who has been a long-time partner in Nigeria’s fight against diseases like polio and malaria, expressed gratitude for the honour and reiterated his foundation’s readiness to deepen its engagements in Africa’s most populous country.

The CFR is Nigeria’s third-highest national honour and is reserved for individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to national development.
