FBI arrests Nigerian ‘Tech Queen’ over fraud allegations

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, has arrested a Nigerian identified as Sapphire Egemasi, also known as tech queen, over alleged involvement in a massive fraud scheme against the city of Kentucky in the United States.
Egemasi was arrested alongside Samuel Kwadwo, a Ghanaian who is believed to be the leader of the fraud group she is working with
The Nation reports that the suspect was apprehended on the 10th of April 2025 in New York.
The prosecutors accuse the suspects of defrauding the city of Kentucky of millions of dollars. They claim the suspects created clone websites of U.S government portals.
The FBI claims that the website created were used to gather login details and redirect payment.
The Burau said in 2022, the group redirected $965 000 and $330,000 into a different bank account.
Egemasi is currently awaiting trial in Kentucky and faces 20 years imprisonment and likely deportation if found guilty of the allegations.
